Reusing Every Last Drop of Water

Filtraglass systems provide up to 85% water savings

Reusing Every Last Drop of Water

The preservation of planet Earth is a common topic nowadays, but there are dates when it takes on greater relevance, and this June 5th is one of them. World Environment Day is commemorated, and although the general objective is to raise awareness about the need to care for the planet, each year focuses on a specific aspect. This year, the theme is: "Our Land. Our Future. We are the #GenerationRestoration" and it focuses on desertification, the need to stop it, and at the same time, to be more resilient in the face of drought.

According to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), 40% of the planet's land areas are degraded. Additionally, drought periods have increased by 29% since 2000, both in number and duration. In this regard, Spain is one of the affected countries, with more than two-thirds of its areas being arid, semi-arid, and dry sub-humid, and with significant prolonged drought periods, according to data from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. However, it is noteworthy that the rains of the past two months have provided some relief, reducing the number of Drought Territorial Units (UTS) in severely affected areas like Catalonia, according to the report issued on April 30th of this year by the aforementioned Ministry.

One of the consequences of these issues is the loss of biodiversity, which in turn endangers food security, water resources, and ultimately, the well-being and survival of all inhabitants of the Earth. Therefore, it is necessary to work to halt and adapt to this new reality.

Now, water saving makes more sense than ever. In fact, in recent months, it has been necessary to implement measures to reduce water consumption, which serves as a reminder that this natural resource is finite. Thus, one of the key aspects is finding a balance so that society can continue its activities with much more sustainable consumption. Filtraglass water filtration systems are a good example; they have been designed so that an industry as important as the glass industry can continue its activity efficiently and sustainably. These water treatment systems are characterized by providing up to 85% water savings. This means significant water recycling without the need to reduce glass processing. The machinery continues to operate at the same pace and even with higher performance because Filtraglass systems clean the water to such an extent that maintenance tasks and the frequency of coolant replacement, which prevents the overheating of diamond grinding wheels, are reduced. All this is due to the extended useful life of the water in the machine.

Undoubtedly, the current situation calls for more initiatives like these, which promote respectful and responsible water consumption in industrial and business activities. Talking about Filtraglass is synonymous with a commitment to the environment.
